Establish what is happening
Inventory prior work
Collect earlier briefs, queries, fixtures, source revisions, conclusions, open questions, and owner notes. Mark the time and scope of each attempt. Separate work that answered a different question from work that repeated the same evidence path without changing its conclusion.
Find the last delta
Compare inputs, evidence, intermediate findings, and outputs between attempts. Identify the last material observation or decision change, if any. Check for moving source data, changed requirements, or a missing artifact that could make two apparently repeated investigations meaningfully different.
Set the current boundary
Write the unresolved question, accepted evidence standard, excluded paths, and stopping condition for the next attempt. Record whether the current work should continue, merge with a prior brief, request new context, or close as duplicate. Preserve the comparison used.
What to carry forward
Return a repeat-investigation scope brief naming prior attempts, overlapping evidence, last material delta, current question, and stopping rule. Triage stops when the next action is distinct and reviewable. Keep the work paused when no new evidence or decision need justifies another pass.
