Prioritize notification actions with clear outcome context

Action context matters when people must open a notification to discover what a button does or when a useful task is hidden behind generic navigation. Compare label, destination, state, and role before adding more actions. A clearer result may need better copy rather than more controls.

Decide where the work belongs

  1. Name the action cost

Describe what a person expects and what the current action actually does. Compare review, acknowledge, navigate, and destructive outcomes. Keep a missing destination separate from a label that is merely too broad.

  2. Compare action sizes

Set concise labels, destination context, inline completion, one safe action, and no action beside one another. Consider permission and state changes. Prefer the smallest action that completes a predictable task without implying authority the person lacks.

  3. Choose the first slice

Record event type, state, owner, and revisit evidence. Decide whether to improve label, destination, state fallback, or action availability. Preserve the current path and one no-action control for comparison. Name the context a person should see next.

What to carry forward

Prioritize action changes where a meaningful task is hidden or a generic button causes wrong navigation. The decision should name outcome and destination scope. If the action already predicts its result, queue the specific stale-state or delivery gap instead.

Keep the decision with the work.

Use a Work Item in Aglet to record the problem, the evidence you have, and the next decision. Add an owner and priority, then keep updates in the discussion so the next person can follow the reasoning.
