Investigate notification action context from event to destination

An investigation should show whether a notification action can be understood and completed from the context available. Replay representative events, compare actions and destinations, and vary current state or role one boundary at a time. Keep generic open behavior separate from task completion.

Build a useful investigation brief

  1. Build the action table

List event, actor, resource, state, role, notification text, action label, destination, permission, resulting state, and fallback. Include one action that completes work and one that only opens a detail page.

  2. Trace one outcome

Hold event fixed while changing state or role, then compare label, visibility, destination, and response. Record whether a stale or unavailable target changes the action. Keep an explicit no-action path as a control.

  3. Write the action brief

State first context loss, affected event states, and competing explanations such as copy, routing, or permission. Recommend one bounded label or destination experiment with a pass condition. Do not claim a task completed when the evidence only shows navigation.

What to carry forward

The investigation is complete when event-to-action-to-destination behavior is reproducible for selected states and roles, or the first unknown is explicit. Stop with one bounded experiment. Keep a generic open action separate from an action that claims to complete work.

Keep the decision with the work.

Use a Work Item in Aglet to record the problem, the evidence you have, and the next decision. Add an owner and priority, then keep updates in the discussion so the next person can follow the reasoning.
