Decide where the work belongs
Assess the cost of ambiguity
Identify teams waiting on the status, decisions that depend on it, customer or release outcomes at risk, and whether a wrong state can cause duplicated or conflicting work. Keep evidence and assumptions separate.
Compare update paths
Consider a quick owner check, dependency review, evidence reconciliation, or deeper investigation. Choose the smallest path that can establish current reality, and state what it cannot verify. Choose the least expensive check that can distinguish progress from silent waiting.
Set the review priority
Assign the status check, owner, due point, and escalation trigger. If the underlying work is urgent, prioritize it separately from status correction so a label change does not masquerade as progress.
What to carry forward
The output is a queue decision that makes ambiguity cost, underlying impact, and update effort visible. Stop when the status check has an owner and trigger; if reality remains unknown, keep a clearly provisional state instead of fabricating freshness.
Keep the decision with the work.
Use a Work Item in Aglet to record the problem, the evidence you have, and the next decision. Add an owner and priority, then keep updates in the discussion so the next person can follow the reasoning.
