Check whether the outcome improved
Run the comparable scenarios
Exercise each materially different condition represented by the reopen history and confirm expected outcomes. Record whether a scenario is fixed, intentionally unsupported, or outside the revised scope. Include the condition that triggered the latest reopen, even if the happy path now passes.
Check closure evidence
Audit linked changes, decisions, dependencies, and acceptance results. Ensure the evidence demonstrates the outcome rather than only a deployment or status update, and verify that the owner accepts the revised boundary.
Exercise the reopen rule
Confirm the item has a clear trigger for reopening or creating new scope, with enough context to avoid another ambiguous cycle. If a scenario fails, keep the work open and attach the new evidence.
What to carry forward
Verification passes when recurring scenarios meet the revised outcome, closure evidence is direct, scope is explicit, and future reopening is intelligible. If one cycle remains unexplained or untested, close only the verified scope and preserve the open branch.
Keep the decision with the work.
Use a Work Item in Aglet to record the problem, the evidence you have, and the next decision. Add an owner and priority, then keep updates in the discussion so the next person can follow the reasoning.
