Verify recovered decision context before proceeding

Verification should test whether context helps a new reviewer make the same bounded decision. Check source links, alternatives, current constraints, and the point at which a provisional assumption must be revisited. A context record is useful only when a current collaborator can apply its boundary without private explanation.

Check whether the outcome improved

  1. Audit evidence and attribution

    Follow each rationale claim to a durable source and label direct record, inference, or unknown. Remove unsupported certainty and confirm that sensitive material is represented through safe references. Check each rationale claim against a source before presenting it as documented context.

  2. Test current applicability

    Compare the recovered decision with current product behavior, dependencies, roles, and customer outcome. Record changed constraints and confirm whether the original alternative comparison still applies. Compare the recovered tradeoff with current constraints before treating it as still applicable.

  3. Exercise the handoff

    Ask a collaborator who was not in the original discussion to state the decision, tradeoff, scope, and next action from the record. If interpretation differs, clarify the brief before proceeding.

What to carry forward

Verification passes when rationale is attributable, current scope is consistent, assumptions are bounded, and an independent collaborator can act from the record. If context remains inferential, verify only a provisional path with an explicit revisit point. Keep unconfirmed rationale visible as an assumption with a named revisit point.
