Check summary fields
Assert the handoff names the decision, scope, sources and revisions, work performed, conclusion, evidence location, uncertainty, open questions, owner, next action, and stopping condition. Mark generic status words as incomplete when they do not describe an observable state.
Run the receiver test
Give the summary to a reader without verbal context and compare their stated decision, evidence, limits, and first action with the underlying work. Record questions, incorrect inferences, and unowned items. Repeat after a bounded correction to confirm the field mattered.
Review reuse limits
Verify historical or stale context is labeled, unresolved claims stay provisional, and scope changes are visible. Check that a later reader can locate the exact artifacts and revision. Retain the summary, source work, reader notes, and corrected version.
What to carry forward
Accept the handoff when an independent reader identifies the same decision, scope, evidence, limits, owner, and next action as the source work. Keep verification open for reconstructed context or hidden uncertainty. Report the reader test, work package, revisions, and known reuse limits.
