Check required fields
Assert the brief states the decision, in-scope sources, time window, permitted actions, excluded work, evidence standard, output shape, reviewer, and stopping condition. Mark each field explicit, inferred, conflicting, or missing. A filled template does not count when the value remains generic.
Run a representative read
Give the brief to a second reader or apply it to a small fixture without adding verbal context. Compare chosen sources, first question, expected output, and stopping behavior. Record every divergence and identify which wording or missing boundary caused it.
Check review readiness
Confirm the handoff can show evidence, uncertainty, open questions, and requested human action without reconstructing hidden assumptions. Verify that an insufficient-evidence result has a defined form. Retain the reviewed brief, fixture, and discrepancies with its revision.
What to carry forward
Accept the brief when independent readers select the same bounded work, use the named evidence, produce the expected handoff, and stop under the stated limits. Keep verification open for inferred authority or unresolved terms. Record the exact context tested because other tasks may need different boundaries.
