Turn Research Synthesis Into Better Team Learning

A synthesis review reveals how a team moves from many observations to a few decisions. Preserve the moment a theme changed, split, or was challenged. Then adapt the method so future analysis keeps source quality, outliers, and participant language visible without making every review cumbersome.

Keep the lesson for the next incident

  1. Preserve the synthesis case

Store the original notes, theme versions, counterexample, reviewer disagreement, and decision together. Include a pattern that looked broad until one segment was separated. That case teaches where aggregation can hide a meaningful difference.

  2. Improve the review ritual

Add source links, segment labels, confidence, and a counterexample prompt to theme reviews. Invite people who observed the work to challenge interpretations. Explain how the new practice addresses the specific loss of context.

  3. Set a generalization warning

Watch for themes with no direct observations, labels no participant would use, or claims that omit method and segment. Assign an owner to sample future synthesis and revisit the ritual when unsupported certainty appears.

What to carry forward

The learning record should link the synthesis error or insight to the changed review practice and recurrence signal. State which context distinctions the team will preserve next time. Keep themes revisable as new evidence changes their boundaries.

Keep the decision with the work.

Use a Work Item in Aglet to record the problem, the evidence you have, and the next decision. Add an owner and priority, then keep updates in the discussion so the next person can follow the reasoning.
