Triage a document link that expires before download

A temporary link may expire while a page is open, while a reader waits, or during the first download request. Triage should capture the link's issued and observed times, document identity, user path, and available recovery. The goal is to distinguish expiration from a wrong document or network failure.

Establish what is happening

  1. Capture the link context

Record document identity or revision, link issuance time, displayed expiry context, page state, and click time. Note whether the reader copied the link, paused on the page, opened another tab, or returned after a long interval.

  2. Compare request outcome

Capture the request time, response status or visible error, selected document, and any refreshed link. Check whether the response indicates expiry, missing identity, access state, or an ordinary transport failure without asserting one from a timeout alone.

  3. Classify recovery

Classify the case as expected expiration, missing renewal, stale page, incorrect document binding, or unknown response. State whether reissuing a link preserves the same revision and what the user can safely try next.

What to carry forward

Triage is complete when issuance, expiry context, click timing, document identity, and recovery result are recorded. If no expiry evidence is exposed, keep the cause unknown and separate an unusable link from a general download failure.
