Check whether the outcome improved
Run size and event cases
Test a one-range file, several full ranges, and a short final range. Introduce a quiet event interval while the transfer continues, then record expected display behavior. Confirm the value does not move backward or freeze at a misleading terminal percentage.
Check phase transitions
Observe transfer complete, validation pending, validation failed, and final ready states separately. Verify each has distinct wording and that progress does not report completion before the workflow's stated ready condition is true.
Inspect recovery controls
Pause, cancel, retry, and revisit the item at each boundary. Confirm controls reflect the actual state and that a retry cannot be triggered merely because the display was quiet while bytes or post-transfer work continued.
What to carry forward
Accept the progress signal when measured movement, phase labels, and terminal controls agree across fixtures and timing gaps. Fail any case where a user could reasonably abandon active work, repeat a completed transfer, or mistake validation for upload completion.
