Turn Product Experiment Results Into Learning

Experiments teach through their design as well as their result. Capture what the team believed, what the comparison actually measured, and where exposure or guardrails limited interpretation. Turn that case into a reusable planning or review habit without pretending one experiment settles the product strategy.

  1. Keep the experiment record

    Store the hypothesis, eligibility rules, assignment details, instrument changes, result, exceptions, and decision together. Include a case where the metric and user outcome diverged. Future reviewers need the boundary, not only the headline number.

  2. Improve the test plan

    Update the experiment brief with a required exposure audit, predeclared guardrails, or a minimum observation window. Show how the change addresses the observed weakness. Avoid adding a ritual that adds paperwork without improving comparison quality.

  3. Set a design warning

    Choose a recurrence signal such as a missing comparison event, a late instrumentation change, or a proxy replacing the intended outcome. Assign an owner to check it during the next experiment review and revisit the practice when the signal appears.
