Check scope fields
Assert one primary decision, named sources, time window, required evidence, exclusions, owner, dependencies, deliverable, and stopping condition. Mark optional questions as deferred items. Reject broad verbs or lists of systems when no relation to the primary decision is stated.
Rehearse the slice
Apply the brief to a small representative case and record first action, evidence gathered, output, and stop behavior. Note any adjacent question needed to finish the result. Confirm it becomes a named follow-up rather than an invisible expansion.
Test widening control
Introduce a plausible new source or question and verify the workflow records its consequence, owner, and queue position. Check that a dependency blocks or redirects the slice visibly. Retain the brief, rehearsal notes, and revised queue with the tested version.
What to carry forward
Accept the scope when one decision guides finite work, exclusions are respected, dependencies are visible, the output is reviewable, and new questions become explicit queue items. Keep verification open when the stop rule depends on intuition or the primary decision changes during execution.
