Build a useful investigation brief
Build a status map
List canonical values with labels, descriptions, tones, icons, filter values, and actions across record types and pages. Mark duplicates, missing mappings, and labels that imply a different state.
Trace the presentation path
Follow model constant, policy or presenter, helper, view partial, navigation, and copy source for each contradiction. Identify the first layer that changes meaning or drops a qualifier.
Test workflow interpretation
Use representative active, pending, failed, verified, archived, and empty states where available. Compare what a user would do from list, detail, filter, and action controls, recording contradictions.
What to carry forward
The brief should identify the canonical meaning, first divergent presentation layer, affected contexts, and action consequence. Conclude mapping drift, domain distinction, filter mismatch, copy problem, or unresolved with confidence. Trace model value, presenter or helper mapping, partial, filter option, navigation, and action copy to find the first layer that changes or drops state meaning. Treat filter semantics and action availability as evidence because identical words can still signal different decisions.
