Verify recovery from incompatible search filters

Verification should prove that a person can understand and recover from an empty filtered search without losing the query or believing the catalog is empty. Exercise valid and impossible combinations, then inspect the controls that explain which choice to remove or broaden.

Check whether the outcome improved

  1. Check a valid narrow result

    Select a combination known to return products and confirm every chip, facet count, and result label agrees. Record the query and selection order. This prevents a recovery change from treating all empty or small sets as errors.

  2. Reach the empty intersection

    Choose the incompatible filters and confirm the empty message names the current query or selected state. Try removing one filter, clearing all, and using a suggested alternative. Verify the path preserves the person’s query when that remains useful.

  3. Review the boundary

    Test direct entry to the same combination and a narrow layout. Ensure an unavailable or stale facet does not create a misleading action. Limit closure language to the combinations tested and leave any unexplained catalog case open.

What to carry forward

Verification passes when valid narrowing remains intact, incompatible filters explain the empty state, and at least one recovery preserves useful intent. If direct links or device layouts remain untested, document that boundary rather than claiming every filter combination recovers.
