How to verify an expensive dashboard improvement in context

Verification must show that the dashboard reaches its first useful decision sooner without silently dropping context or moving cost into refresh. Replay the original state, a focused state, and a larger data case, then inspect widget correctness, filters, empty states, errors, and repeated use.

Check whether the outcome improved

  1. Replay the original dashboard state

    Use the same route, filters, time range, account or dataset size, widget set, viewport, and cache state as the baseline. Record first decision context, each widget completion, full readiness, request count, and client work. Repeat runs so one unusually fast response does not decide the result.

  2. Check widget and filter correctness

    Compare values, labels, ranges, ordering, units, timestamps, filters, and drill-down links with the baseline. Exercise empty, partial, permission, and error states for individual widgets. Confirm deferred or shared work cannot display a value from another filter or stale dashboard state.

  3. Exercise refresh and larger data

    Refresh the dashboard, change the time range, and repeat with a larger representative dataset. Watch for duplicate requests, stale values, memory growth, and a second slow path after the initial view. Confirm the first decision remains supported while optional widgets continue loading or fail clearly.

What to carry forward

Classify the dashboard as improved, regressed, unchanged, or inconclusive with readiness, widget, filter, and refresh evidence attached. It passes only when the first decision is available sooner, complete context remains trustworthy, and repeated or larger states do not recreate the expensive path.
