Investigate download identity and content binding

Investigation should compare one selected document with a controlled revision or neighboring document that could be confused with it. Capture identity at every boundary and inspect content, not just labels. The brief should show whether the mismatch begins before request creation, during resolution, or in saved assembly.

Build a useful investigation brief

  1. Create identity contrasts

Prepare two documents with similar names and two revisions of one document with deliberately different content markers. Record expected identity, revision, format, and comparison evidence before starting each selection path.

  2. Trace resolution boundaries

Capture page selection, request parameters, redirects or retries when observed, resolved document identity, revision, response metadata, and saved result. Mark any boundary that drops revision or format context, keeping unknown transitions explicit.

  3. Compare bytes and labels

Inspect content markers and length for each downloaded result beside its selected identity. Explain the earliest proven divergence and test a stale page or repeated click separately so a timing hypothesis does not replace evidence.

What to carry forward

The investigation is sufficient when controlled identities and content markers show where the selected and delivered artifacts diverge. If only filenames or titles can be compared, report the limited evidence and do not infer byte equality or mismatch.
